New Delhi: Grapevine has it that former minister Shashi Tharoor is likely to tie the knot with Dubai-based businesswoman Sunanda Pushkar on August 17, which is the Malayalam New Year Day.

The media in Kerala is full of details about the impending marriage and there are reports that the Tharoor-Pushkar marriage will be solemnized in an auditorium in the premises of the Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple in Thiruvananthapuram, built by the royal family of Travancore.

It is also official now that Tharoor has divorced his Canadian wife, Christa Giles.

The parliament record of the Thiruvananthapuram MP, which till last week had Christa Tharoor's name against a column for marital status, now mentions his status as divorcee.

The former Union minister and Pushkar offered prayers at the famous Sai Baba Temple in Shirdi and at the Shani Shingnapur shrine in Maharashtra's Ahmednagar district on Sunday.

Ponnar Sankar is a legendary story of two warrior brothers who lived many centuries ago, their story is what history is made of and they are worshipped as kaval devams in the villages even today, their princely story has been recounted through the countless folk ballads and the brothers are known for their bravery, strength of character and valor. On hearing of this valorous tale, a young man adapted a story based on this in 1978, which became a very valuable and acclaimed work of art. The movie Ponner Shankar is based on the book titled Kalaignerin Ponner Sankar written by that young man who is none other than our Honble chief minister of Tamilnadu Dr. Karunanidhi.

Amongst his huge depository of novels and books that Dr.Kalaigner has written over the years, Ponnar Sankar is known to be one of his finest and is very close to his heart. Many eminent people have tried to make this novel into a movie but have not succeeded till now, as Kalaigner was very particular about who would do justice to his story on celluloid. But when Mr.Thiagarajan approached Dr. Kalaigner with his vision to do the movie, he was impressed and gave his consent for the book to be made into a Movie on a unprecedented scale as the script deserves.

Mr.Thigarajan a very famous Actor Producer and Director has now taken up the Himalayan task of bringing to life this mammoth Epic. Mr.Thiagarajan left his lucrative business in garment exports and enjoyed a long successful spell as a hero in the tamil movies. Its only when Prashanth his son, debuted in the tamil industry that Thiagarajan decided to don character roles instead and produce and direct movies for his son. His last directorial venture Shock was an experimental hit horror movie and became a trend setter for the amazing visual techniques used and was well appreciated by the critics and masses alike. After the success of director Saji Surendran's Ivar Vivahitharayal and Happy Husbands, quite a few TV serial directors are making their way to the big screen.

The latest entrant is director Radhakrishnan Mangalath, who is ready with his debut Malayalam film, Sakudumbam Shyamala (Shyamala with her family).

Urvashi, Kunchacko Boban and Bhama play the lead roles in the film. The others in the cast include Nedumudi Venu, Suraj Venjarammoodu, Sai Kumar, Maniyanpillai Raju and Geetha Vijayan.

Urvashi plays Shyamala, an ambitious woman, who ditch her rich family to elope with her lover. Now, her son Adarsh (Kunchacko Boban) works for a TV channel and Shyamala plans to get him married to a rich man's daughter. But he falls in love with his colleague, Vandana (Bhama). Vandana belongs to a middle class family. Shyamala meanwhile enters politics and becomes quite successful in the field.

Krishna Poojappura, who had scripted Ivar Vivahitharayal and Happy Husbands, is the scenarist. Jibu Jacob is the cinematographer and M G Sreekumar the music director.

The shooting of the film has been completed at various locations in Thiruvananthapuram.

Sakudumbam Shyamala is being made under the banner of Kunjuveettil Creations.

Proving media reports true that Simbu would replace Allu Arjun in the Tamil remake of Telugu hit 'Vedam', an official annoucement has been made today that the film has been titled 'Vaanam'. Anushka is playing the female lead in this movie.

'Cable Raja on duty from today', the advertisements said, giving a clue on the role that is going to be played by the actor. To be directed by Krish and produced by B Ramesh and ‘VTV’ Ganesh, the film will have music by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

The Telugu original, which is a cocktail of five different interwoven stories, too was directed by Krish with Allu Arjun, Manoj Manchu, Anushka, Manoj Bajpai, Lekha Washington and others playing the lead roles. The film released on June 4, 2010 to positive reviews.

In the forthcoming movie of Mammootty titled 'Best Actor' , the superstar is playing the role of a UP school teacher who wants to be a film actor. To be directed by fashion photographer-turned director Martin Prakkat, the film is said to be an emotional at the same time rocking comedy entertainer. Popular Kannada actress Shruthi Ramakrishnan, who was the heroine in Prithiya and Police Quarters besides a Tamil movie, will be the lead heroine.

Music Director M.G Radhakrishnan Passes away

Senior music director in the South Indian film and music industries, M.G Radhakrishnan(73 years) has passed away. Radhakrishnan had been admitted at a private hospital one week earlier where he succumbed to death today. He has bagged Kerala State Film Award for best music director for the film Achaneyanenikkishtam in 2001 and Ananthabhadram in 2005. His brother M. G. Sreekumar is an Indian playback singer in Malayalam and Tamil cinema.

The man who composed such songs as ‘Varuvaanillarum innorunaalum ee vazhi’ in Manichithrathaazhu, is no more. Radhakrishnan, who has composed over 300 songs, has been ill for a while owing to a liver malfunction.

The first film he composed music for is Thambu released in 1978. Some of his popular songs are ‘Shalabam vazhimaruma mizhi randilum’ (Achaneyanenikkishtam), ‘Naadha nee varum kalocha kelkuvan’ (Chaamaram) and ‘Pinakkamano’ (Ananthabhadram). He is the brother of playback singer MG Sreekumar. He had introduced ‘Nightingale of South India’ KS Chitra to playback singing in Cinema in the movie Attahaasam.
