Neelathamara being remade

For the first time ever, a Malayalam film is going to be remade officially! Thirty years ago, noted lyricist and writer Yousaf Ali Kechery had made his directorial debut with Neelathamara, based on a script written by M T Vasudevan Nair.

The 1979 Neelathamara was the first film of famous actress Ambika, who later went on to become a big heroine in south Indian cinema.

Noted director Lal Jose, who fell in love with the film during his school days, along with producer Suresh Kumar of Revathy Kalamandir are going to remake it with an all new star cast.

Last week, there was a unique function at Hotel Avenue Regency in Ernakulam, when the old team of producer Abbas, M T Vasudevan Nair and the actors in the original - Ambika, Ravikumar and Sathar - came for the 'pooja' and met up with the new team of the 2009 Neelathamara.

The film is produced by Revathy Kalamandir and directed by Lal Jose.

New girl Archana will play Ambika's role, while newcomer Kamlesh will do Ravikumar's role and Sathar's role will be done by Ambika's brother Suresh.
